Are you authentically a nice person? Are you Polite, agreeable and blandly inoffensive? Are you one of those who get interviewed by a stranger in a dentist waiting lounge while waiting for your turn? If your answer is yes to any of the questions mentioned above than read on….

What is with these kind of people who meet casually or accidentally and extract your family history which includes your relationship with your husband, in laws, your maids name and whether he is having an affaire with another maid or not, within 15 minutes. Actually these people are like deadly insect who paralyze you with there interrogation skills ( it reminds me of PARAYSH RAWAL in bollywood movie called “JUDAI”) and all u do is answer one after another falling short of breath feeling more uncomfortable to say NO.

Are the people assertive, constant or SP (SUPER PAKAO)? The question arises why are they interested in your life why they wana know about you? As you are a complete stranger to them, the fact is the problem is; that you are too nervous, courteous a tad to well mannered and a great potential to become a DOORMAT OR LETS CALLED YOU SCHMUCK.

If you are this kind of person you might encounter the following conditions on daily basis:

1) The co-worker who has no work to do drops on your head with a big smile and a cup of tea and totally ignorant or your workload or deadline starts complaining about their spouses, in laws, boss and what not……. Umm how can u possibly tell that IM KINNA BUSY… you can’t say a thing cuz u r too nice and u believe in order to be heard you need to be good listener… Bullshit!

2) A friend calls you on a Sunday and u r indulge in your weekend beauty regime with a mask on your face and feet soaked in paraffin wax u pretend to enjoy her chit chat and laugh at his/her jokes but if u have bleach on your face you will be heading to a dermatologist in emergency and dousing your face with calamine lotion for the rest of the day… duh!!

3) How about your mom’s monologue about how she told the oopper walee to be cautious of her husband’s affaire and all this happens when u r in the middle of a hamid mir’s show at geo….hmmm

4) How about u r getting late and the door bell ring where the door to door marketing people r their trying to sell bathroom cleaners to you… But u rso polite that you’ll listen to the whole rote presentation but never open your mouth to tell his/her that I am getting late damn it!!….

5) Are u also the one who lets an old lady drive past by stopping your car and then u wait for 15 mins to help her without realizing that your tailor will close the shop for prayer and you’ll have to wait another 30 mins :-/

6) U also cant say no to the shopkeeper who praises you by saying you’ll look like a super model if u buy this suit even if u don’t like it you’ll buy it cux shop keeper ko bura na lagay… rite?

Being polite and accommodating to other is good to an extent don’t go out of the way by giving discomfort to your self but making others happy. Standing for your rights and not being taken advantage of your good nature or of being assertive communicate what u wana say in such manner where u respect your own rights and feelings and respecting others as well. Assertion is an honest and a suitable expression of one’s feeling, opinions and needs. It is time to stop being taken for granted. Be bold take a deep breath and tell a co-worker/friend/parent that you would love to listen to all their woes but when I am finished with my work. Vow to yourself that you would not be hypnotized by a stranger or any other u know..

But if you don’t than be prepared for a complete strangers to approach you in a bank queue, asking for your cell phone as they are short of credit, or brace yourself when your co-worker wants to borrow your car for a date…if u cant over come this disease;

1. Last movie you saw in a theater?

Theatre?? Ever heard of a DVD player? Besides I am a Karachiite we dont spend money on movies and overcoats

2. What book are you reading?

I borrowed ‘How the web was born‘ from Rakesh. But am I getting any time to read it?

3. Favorite board game?

Ludo What? dont tell me you have not played this mind blowing game.

4. Favorite magazine?

Newsweek, there was a time when I used to read “Young Times” a lot.

5. Favorite smells?

I like the smell of Bar-B-QUE, especially when I am starving.

6. Favorite sounds?

If you dwell in a city like Karachi you will prefer the sound of Silence. Now You have the right to ask;’What on earth is the sound of Silence’.

When bullies mistreat the innocents. One example is Israeli occupation on the poor Palestinians.

That I can sleep for another 10 mins or more

Good Broast What? they make good broast and yes they named the place ‘Good Broast’. How convinient eh?

Zehra if its a gurl. Meesam if its a boy and trust me I am not getting married any time sooner. Its jsut I like the two names.
