The tragic incident in Islamabad is not the first of its nature as for the past few years Pakistan is the biggest victim of terrorism. The culprits might be unknown but the victims are clearly Pakistani citizens. Since 9/11 when USA decided to attack neighboring Afghanistan, we were forced to be the part of this war that was never ours. In return our leaders and military officials bagged million of dollars and allowed US to use our military bases, men and other valuable resources to achieve results that could safeguard their interests, security and freedom.

The decision to help USA achieve their targets in return of monetary and political support appeared to be a profitable deal for Gen. Musharraf and his lot. His rule was illegal but with America as a guardian Angel and opportunist establishment for colleagues no one could have possibly stopped him for ruling the country for years. And that’s exactly what happened. What makes Military rulers wiser then their political counterparts is the fact that they learn from their mistakes and capitalize on any given opportunity. Zia did it and so did Musharraf.

But this time it was a whole different ball game. At the time when Russians invaded Afghanistan the self acclaimed and appointed Amir Ul Momineen; Zia Ul Haq gave the American war the slogan of Jihad but this time the US trained Jihaadis were the target themselves. For the past 7 years we did everything to please the Americans but every time we got to hear one word; ‘More’, they always want more in return. And now when we opened our eyes after all these years in this new ‘Enlighten Moderated’ and   Politically Vocal’ country the news dawns to us that the war is not American or Afghani any more, its our war.

This is our war now, and I am saying this because Pakistan men, women and children lost their lives in this undeclared and unwelcome war. Following is the short analysis on various issues that link us to mess we are in rite now.

In the name of Islam:

We often listen to reactions of naïve countrymen after every suicide attack. Many people simply reject the possibility that any Muslim can even commit this crime of mass murdering. Theoretically speaking Islam condemns any act of terrorism where innocents loose their lives. But this is no secret that all the known terrorists in Pakistan are Muslims and are happily committing these crimes in the name of Islam. So why beat about the bush. Why don’t face the dark reality and condemn them on every forum and isolate these murderers and destroyers of peace from our society.

Role Of Religious Scholars and Clerics

 fazal-ur-rehman.jpg

The role of clerics and religious scholars in this crisis is pathetically unproductive and deserve all the criticism in the world for obvious reasons. From the day we opened our eyes we have observed them criticizing every thing that moved. They hate everybody as according to them every act not related to them is against Islam. But since the day these terrorists are proving themselves to be the scum of the society and bringing bad repute to the religion; No word condemnation has come out of the mouth the Mullahs (except of the very few).

How many times these clerics came to the street for their fellow Muslims who died just because some brain washed teenager was doing a favor to Islam; Never. Not a single time I ever heard that these Mullahs who otherwise conduct mass rallies against Danish Cartoons and ID cards rules ever condemned suiciders, their cause or approach.  Qazi Hussien, Fazal Ur Rehman have great influence in the frontier. Many local and otherwise Talibans were the part of their seminaries but not even a single time any of these men stood against the terrorists or even protested just for the sake of it.

This is a very sad state of affairs. What Pakistanis need is a good, balanced education first. I think this will give rise to a better economy, higher standard of living, and sincere, hardworking people in all walks of life. This will also help get rid of the mob mentality and the grandiose sense of religiosity which is used as an excuse by many terrorists.

@Meher
Education in the religious sector is more required. When truck drivers and people with limited religious knowledge become jihadis there is very less we can do.

@Prerna and Odzer
Thanks for the condolences Delhi faced something similar though smaller in scale recently but you can relate how it feels. We Pakistanis are the victim of terrorism for quite some time, i hope things get better.

Very rightly put ! i like the fact that there are a few people among s who can be rational about things. who can acknowledge the fact that all this didn’t just spring up from no where , it has its roots deeply grounded in our society. The only way to combat is to learn where it initiated from , recognize the enemy and then do something. Just beating about the bush and pretending like these ppl aren’t even Muslims or Pakistanis is a shame nothing more than that, what these ppl are doing is against Islam but it is true that they tag the violence in the name of Islam . Rational thinking and an analysis of their history and ‘culture’ will at least help us know them closely. As far as these mulla’s are concern they are gud for nothing honestly !
