Raat yuu. dil me.n terii kho’ii hu’ii yaad aayii

(Last night, a lost memory of you stole itself into my heart)

Jaise viiraanay me.n chupkay se bahaar aa jaa’ye

(Like spring slowly creeps over a forgotten wilderness)

Jaisay sehraa’o.n me.n hauley se chalay baad-e-nasiim

(Like a gentle breeze blows softly over the desert)

Jaisay beemaar ko be-vajha qaraar aa jaa’ye

(Like the ailing patient who finds solace for no reason)

I love this ghazal Ammar.I heard it first time in the famous PTV play ‘Dhoop Kinare’.Thanks for posting it.
Nayyara Noor(not sure about the spelling) is a great singer.She doesn’t seem to sing anymore. Has she retired?

@Prerna
Hmm… you have a wonderful memory, even I forget about the play and the fact that it was DHOOP KINAREY’s sound track.

As for Nayyarra Noor,shes on an unannounced retirement. Though her son is an upcoming singer and runs a band.

@awahid
welcome to ronin, i can relate th lovely feeling you mentioned.

Faiz!….one got to be blessed to do this kind of poetry. Nayyara is good too. I have the CD ‘Nayyara sings Faiz’…it is wow! Faiz ka koyee bhi kalaam uthaayein, woh pehlay sey zyada khubsoorat!

Ammar, Dhoop kinare is one of the most beautiful play ever created,I can’t forget it ever. Comedy, romance, sorrow every emotion so sensitively handled. I remember my husband and me rented all the 4 cassettes of the play on a Saturday evening and could not sleep till we finished watching all the episodes. Women of all ages at least known to me were crazy about Dr Ahmar.Zoya, played by Marina Khan touched everybody’s heart.I guess it was best team PTV had- Hasina Moin as writer, Saira Kazmi as director,the most talented actors. I can go on and on. This particular Ghazal added to the beauty of the play.Faiz is beyond any analysis and Nayyara Noor has done full justice to the words.
