All the sports lovers of the world are enjoying the on going Beijing Olympics. Chinese sportsmen are at the top of their game like always and have successfully earned most of the Gold in the first half of this sports gala. Not surprising eh?

Now come down from China to its neighboring country Pakistan. Hockey is our national sports and our performance in hockey tells a lot about our nation. Every player plays with 3 hockey’s each. One hockey in hand and the remaining two appears some where from their socks. But you cant blame them or can you, considering the wheat crisis in the country I’m sure they don’t get much to eat or drink. Unlike our cricketers who not only not only have the luxury to fancy and expensive stuff to eat, drink and sniff :P

But even that is not the only reason that our hockey players displayed below average performance. They are under this inferiority complex, because they don’t get no coverage in the media. The other day my mum told me that the reason we lost in hockey because we don’t have Kabir Khan in the team.

I asked her; ‘who?’

She said that Kabir Khan, who also coach girls team.

But that was Shahrikh Khan in Chak De :P

And she was like: So what? He was on our side in the first scene of the film.

I was speechless, so I brainstormed a bit and came to this conclusion that the reason of our performance or lack of presence in the Olympics is because of the fact that we are not allowed to play sports that we are actually good at. If they can have gymnastics and athletics in which we are not really good. Then we can play sports like;

  1. Luudo
  2. Gilli Danda
  3. Kho Kho
  4. King
  5. Pithu Baari
  6. Cham Cham
  7. Cheel Uri
  8. Patti
  9. Chuppan Chuppai
  10. Pakram Pakraai
  11. Carem

Now the above mention sports/games are equally exciting and fun to play. For example;

 snakes_and_ladders.jpg

King:

Players make a ring and shout the word ‘RING’ and jump back. The one in the middle is the potential knockout player so it is his duty jump and touch/kick the foot of the any other player to save his ass from getting knocked out of the game.

Pithu Bari:

Pithus are medium sized pieces of flat shaped rocks that are place over each other, now the team who looses the toss has to break this pyramid by hitting it with a ball.  After the pyramid is broken down into pieces and on the floor; one team has to rebuilt the pyramid while the other team will fetch the ball and hit the players of the other team (the guys who are rebuilding the pyramid).

Chuppan Chupai (Hide and Seek):

Now this is an international sport. But I would not recommend it, as we cant trust our players activities in front of cameras who will take the responsibility of them while hiding ;) you never know what happens :P

Conclusion:

Anyways I hope the Olympics committee should keep these options into consideration because we are desperately in need of some medals. As gold and silver prices are getting higher with every second while I am typing this blog post.

Haha man I exaggerate or what? :P

We Pakistani have this habit to make new records. And these records are not limited to the field of cricket only where we allow infant teams like Ireland (in last WC) and Bangladesh (96) to beat us in big tournaments of the only sport left (ie Cricket) that we are actually good at in comparison to other sports.

So I was talking about history making, we are making new records in the sport of politics. As the parliament is impeaching the President who himself hold quite a few local and world records. If I can recall when the retired general was frequently asked that when will he resign, his answer simply used to be that when the people will ask him to. That seems to be apparently an honest reply :P from a then straight forward General that he used to portray himself to be.

For those who don’t know all four provincial assemblies have shown distrust on the retired general for holding the office of Presidency. This disapproval came in the shape of resolution that was carried out separately in all four provinces. Though this resolution has no legal value but morally speaking it was yet again proved that the majority wants him sacked. And for some the story does not end here, they want him tried for the crimes he has committed in 9 long years. Please keep in mind that both MQM and PPP Sherpao did not support Musharraf in this provincial resolution. MQM chose to abstain and the ex federal minister Sherpaao’s party voted against Musharraf.

I think even a blind man can witness how things actually are. Even if you go on the streets and ask common men, the majority wants him out and tried for hundreds of cases and crimes.

Question is; cant he see that?

I am sure he can, but he will choose to ignore.

For what?

For the love of position, power and self esteem he will drag his feet. He will drag his feet for the love of Kursi, “his precious:P

(16 Aug 1947, London, England, UK — Moslems living in London are shown as they attend the raising of the new Pakistan flag at Lancaster house to celebrate the granting of dominion, and status to Pakistan and India by the British government. )

 —

The other day I met an old friend. After recalling the good old days of school I inquired him about his life. On the question the fellow got all animated and started counting all the tribulations in his life. His problems were not different from the problems that any other Pakistani faces everyday. Inflation that stops him for getting higher studies, power crisis that causes lack of sleeping which results in bad performance at work, joblessness in the country that makes him work at a low pay scale job on their conditions and sense of no security; as he has this fear that God forbid someday a bomb blast will either put his or the lives of his loved ones into an inevitable danger. In a nutshell this country is not a place to live.

Honestly, I was in no place to argue him, yes we have all these problems and they are not going anywhere towards solution but as a matter of fact with the passage of time they are increasing. But if anyone today is responsible for what has happen to this country is people like you and me. Yes we are responsible for not making enough efforts to stop the issues from destroying our country.

But despite 61 years of problem, mishaps and grudges, the whole country unites when we are watching a cricket match, some years back when earth quick struck the northern areas the whole country stood under the Greean and White flag to help our brothers. It was the most surprising sight for our older generation who didn’t expect this courage and empathy from the internet generation.  And the way that civil society came on the streets for the restoration of justice makes me both proud and hopeful that this nation got what it takes. Yes we need to work on a zillion things to make it ideal or close to something that we call ideal but trust me we can do it.

I wish you Happy Independence

Long Live Pakistan
